A Voorheesville man was arrested on Monday, July 18, on charges he choked and kicked his pregnant fiance in the stomach.
Police said Richard T. Kurtz III, 32, got into an argument with the 25-year-old woman at about 8:30 a.m., saying the unborn child was not his. The altercation allegedly became physical and Kurtz tried to forcibly remove an engagement ring from the woman’s finger, police said.
During this argument, the woman was allegedly forced onto a bed where Kurtz got on top of her back and choked her around her neck with a towel to the point she nearly lost consciousness, according to police. He then allegedly removed the ring and kicked her in the stomach.
Police said a 3-year-old child was in the residence and witnessed the attack.
Kurtz was arrested by Albany County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with robbery in the second degree, strangulation in the second degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree`all felonies`an act injurious to a child less than 17, aggravated harassment in the second degree and assault in the third degree.
The woman was treated at Albany Medical Center for injuries that consisted of bruises to her arms and abrasions about her neck and face.
Kurtz was remanded to the Albany County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.“
