Police looking for more info on stolen equipment
Bethlehem police early on Monday, July 11, arrested a Voorheesville man and charged him with stealing a trailer full of equipment off of a National Grid construction site.
Adam S. Tommell, 28, of Stove Pipe Road, was charged with three felonies: grand larceny in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree.
Bethlehem police pulled over a pickup truck towing a trailer filled with construction equipment at about 12:40 a.m. as it pulled on to the Delmar Bypass from Murray Road without its headlights on, police said. The truck stopped in a municipal parking lot and the operator allegedly fled into the woods.
Police determined that the trailer was reported stolen in May of 2010. It contained a New Holland Skid Steer that was allegedly just stolen from a National Grid construction site on Murray Avenue.
At about 2:20 a.m., the Albany County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle on Delaware Avenue that had as a passenger a man fitting the suspect’s description. Bethlehem police identified and arrested Tommell.
Tommell was released on $20,000 bail bond.
Police said the arrest has sparked a joint investigation with State Police resulting in the recovery of a large quantity of stolen construction equipment outside of Bethlehem.
