Police in Albany County arrested 14 people on drunk driving charges over the recent holiday weekend.
Between the evening of Friday, July 1, and the morning of Tuesday, July 5, police made over 900 traffic stops during a DWI Blanket Patrol, which was the 90th such sweep conducted in the history of the county’s Stop DWI program.
Of the 14 arrested, three suspects refused to take a breathalyzer test and four were charged with aggravated DWI for having a BAC above 0.18 percent, police said. One person was also arrested for driving while ability impaired and two arrests for DWAI-drugs were made.
There were three alcohol-related crashes over the weekend and one alcohol related fatality, police said. The average BAC of those arrested was 0.14 percent. Police also found 30 designated drivers.
11 municipal police departments, the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and the State Police all participated in the sweep.`
