The Shaker boys 3,200-meter relay team took first place at last weekend’s New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Caledonia-Mumford High School.
The team of Mike Libruk, David Marthy, Christian Delago and Reuben Feinman ran a time of 7:41.47 to edge St. John the Baptist for the Federation championship. The same four Blue Bison also defeated St. John the Baptist at the indoor track and field championships in March.
Shaker’s time was the third-fastest in Section II history.
Casey Gilboy and Emily VanDenburgh both had top-six finishes among Division 1 (large school) athletes at the state meet. Gilboy was fifth in the boys 3,000-meter steeplechase (eighth among Federation runners) with a time of 9:40.22, while VanDenburgh placed sixth in the girls long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 5.25 inches.
VanDenburgh took seventh place in the Federation long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3.5 inches.
Kristen Hayes finished seventh in the Division 1 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:04.74 for Shaker.
In other state meet action, Colonie’s Kyle Plante placed second in both the state and Federation girls 400-meter dashes. Plante ran a time of 54.67 seconds in last Friday’s Division 1 400 dash and finished with a time of 54.32 seconds in Saturday’s Federation race.
Plante teamed up with Kristina Lenge, Uwa Omorogbe and Andrea Guidarelli on Colonie’s 1,600-meter relay team, which placed fifth in the Federation race with a time of 3:55.06. Colonie was seventh in Friday’s Division 1 race with a time of 3:56.54.
Colonie’s Giancarlo Sainato placed third in the boys Federation 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.44, while Tehresa Coles finished fourth in the girls Division 1 discus competition with a throw of 118 feet, 6 inches. Coles then placed sixth in the Federation discus with a distance of 115 feet, 5 inches.
Colonie’s Raquel Cunningham finished seventh in the girls Division 1 long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1.5 inches, and Jayson Gayle placed ninth in the boys Division 1 long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 1.75 inches.`
