Bethlehem police continue to investigate an instance of vandalism at the Bethlehem Central School District’s Operations and Maintenance facility that crippled most the vehicle fleet for a day.
On Monday, May 9, district workers came to work to discover damage done to 15 vehicles and seven tractors or mowers, including punctured tires and obscenities and swastikas etched into paint.
Our detectives and our school resource officers are continuing to follow up on leads, but no arrests have been made at this time, Lt. Thomas Heffernan of the Bethlehem Police Department said. `It continued to be an active and ongoing investigation. We’re still working closely with officials from the schools.`
The district was forced to replace more than 40 tires as the result of the vandalism and had to make other repairs, including removing grass and mud from fuel tanks and replacing broken windows. Altogether, the repairs set the district back $26,000.“
