From the Colonie Police department:
The Colonie Police Department responded to a multi-car crash at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Central Avenue between Tull Drive and Locust Park in the Village of Colonie.
Kurt Dano, 80, of Latham, suffered a medical problem and drove his 2006 Buick from the Westbound lanes of Central Avenue over the center median and into the Eastbound lanes.
Dano sideswiped a 2005 Dodge pick up driven by Nicholas Gimiani, 48, of Colonie. Neither Gimiani nor his 17 year old son were injured. Dane’s Buick then struck a 2010 Nissan nearly head on. The driver, William Sturdivant, 70, of Colonie, suffered knee and shoulder pain. His passenger, Juanita Sturdivant, 59, suffered chest pain. The Buick spun and hit a 2003 Honda, driven by Corinne Luft, 31, of Colonie. Luft was uninjured.
A 2003 Honda then struck Luft’s car. The driver of the second Honda, L.D. Reaster, 29, of Schenectady was not injured and his car suffered very minor damage.
Colonie EMS transported Dano to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was being treated for the medical problem as well as minor leg and back pain. Juanita Sturdivant was transported to Albany Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown but not life threatening.
All drivers and passengers appear to have been wearing seatbelts, greatly reducing any injuries. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Police are still investigating the crash and traffic charges may be forthcoming for Dano.
Central Avenue was shut down to one lane in each direction for
approximately two and a half hours and was reopened at 7:05 p.m.
