A.W. Becker art show features work from every student at school
A.W. Becker Elementary School overflowed with students and parents on Monday, May 16, for the school’s third annual student art show.
An ice cream social in the cafeteria attracted the attention of many of the younger attendees, but everyone was excited to see his or her own piece of art displayed around the school. The exhibit is unique in that every one the school’s roughly 500 students participates, said A.W. Becker Art Teacher Tim Meservey.
Some kids have one piece of art, some have two or three, he said. `I don’t leave out anybody.`
This made for around 900 pieces of art that were displayed throughout the halls of the school. Paintings, sculptures and masks adorned walls and tables. In many cases, classes chose their own themes.
The show also featured a large mural the students collaborated on, which is a yearly project for Meservey’s students. The art show is an event they all look forward to, he said.
`They get so excited…they just like feeling like they’re a part of the school,` he said.
