State police on Thursday, Feb. 10, arrested Faqir S. Rasul, 20, of 64 Jennings Drive, Albany, and charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a felony, after troopers allegedly found him with over a pound of cocaine.
Police stopped a 2008 Lincoln MKX on the Thruway in the Town of Bethlehem shortly before 10 p.m. for allegedly not using its turn signal when passing. Police said a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle and upon a search they discovered 18 ounces of cocaine.
Police said the cocaine had a street value of more than $50,000.
The driver of the car, Christopher D. Flood, 21, of 1073 Congress Street, Schenectady, was also ticketed for driving with a suspended license. Faqir was remanded to the Albany County jail without bail and was scheduled to appear in Bethlehem Town Court on Thursday, Feb. 17.`
