There is no excuse for not getting home safely after New Year’s Eve festivities for residents in Schenectady County, because they can get a free ride.
Schenectady County STOP-DWI is sponsoring a Safe Ride Home program on New Year’s Eve for the 26th year. County residents can receive a free taxi ride home on New Year’s Eve by calling 374-4101. The program is funded by Schenectady County STOP-DWI from DWI fines collected.
Rides on New Year’s Eve will begin at 10 p.m. and run until 5 a.m. the following morning. A Safe Ride home may be obtained by calling 374-4101.
`Our goal is a fun, safe and happy New Year for everyone in Schenectady County,` said Susan Savage, chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. `We invite you to ring in the New Year by celebrating in one of our many exciting nightspots. But please drive safe and sober, and if you need a ride home call for a ‘Safe Ride.’`
Last year hundreds of people in Schenectady County took advantage of the program, said county officials, with no DWI arrests made during the program’s time period.
Police agencies throughout Schenectady County will be out in full force to ensure everyone can have a safe evening.“
