Saratoga Springs police arrested Richard E. Berg, 33, of Corinth, for grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, following an investigation into a morning incident.
At about 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, Saratoga Springs police received a call of a female screaming for help in the Price Chopper parking lot on Railroad Place in the City of Saratoga Springs. According to police reports, witnesses described a white male wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt running away from the area toward Clinton Street and another witness observed the male subject enter a vehicle and leave the area, getting the license plate.
Responding officers identified the female victim that was screaming for help and determined that the male subject running from the area had reached in to her vehicle and stolen her purse, according to police reports. Officers began checking the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or subject, said police reports.
A description of the vehicle and the license plate number was given out to area law enforcement agencies and a Saratoga County Sheriff Deputy spotted the vehicle in the Village of Corinth.
Berg will be held in the Saratoga Springs City Jail until arraignment. At this time the case is still under investigation and further charges against Berg or the female in the vehicle with him are possible, said police. The stolen property has been recovered.
