A traffic stop resulted in a surprising discovery on Wednesday, Nov. 3, when Saratoga Springs police discovered nine pounds of marijuana in the vehicle, according to police reports.
Police say that around 3:41 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on South Broadway after the driver made an unsafe lane change. Once stopped, the officer noticed the occupants of the vehicle to be very nervous, soon discovering that the driver was driving with a suspended license, according to police reports. The driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
According to reports, shortly thereafter, police discovered nine pounds of marijuana in the car during a search of the vehicle.
The driver of the car, Christopher Redding, 28, of Massena, NY and a passenger, James Parrotte, 17, of Madrid, NY were both arrested and charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony. Redding was also charged with the violations of unsafe lane change and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Police have not been able to determine the final destination of the marijuana but estimate the street value to be about $27,000.
Redding and Parrotte were arraigned in Saratoga Springs City Court and were remanded to Saratoga County Jail, Redding without bail and Parrotte in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
