Senator Hugh Farley and Assemblyman George Amedore celebrated their election night victories at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia as they defeated Democrat opponents.
Incumbent Farley, R-Niskayuna, gained another term representing the state’s 44th Senate District and defeated opponent Susan Savage, D-Niskayuna, according to unofficial results. Farley held a lead of at least 20 percent in unofficial polling from reporting election districts.
Unofficial Results from 100 percent of Schenectady County had Farley with 26,983 votes, 60.12 percent, and Savage with 17,747 votes, 39.54 percent. Also, unofficial results form Saratoga County had Farley with 12,944 votes and Savage with 6,612 votes. In Montgomery County with all election districts reporting the results were similar with Farley receiving 8,649 votes, 68 percent, and Savage with 4,097 votes, 32 percent.
This is the most rewarding race that I think I have ever won, because it was one the nastiest and negative races that I have ever faced, said Farley during his victory speech as results seemed to solidify his victory. `I just can’t get over the results that as there coming in. I know it is early to start declaring victory, but I’ll tell you I’m pretty confident and I thank you all.`
Not too long after Farley gave his speech, Amedore felt reported elections results had too solidified his victory.
Amedore, R-Rotterdam, who was elected during a special election, retained his seat for the state’s 105th Assembly District and defeated opponent Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam, according to unofficial election results. Schenectady County proved to be a closer race than Montgomery County in election results.
Unofficial results from 100 percent of Schenectady County had Amedore with 11,493 votes, 52.7 percent, and Santabarbara with 10,282 votes, 47.15 percent. Montgomery County unofficial results with all election districts reporting had Amedore with 8,760 votes, 68.09 percent, and Santabarbara trailing with 4,097 votes, 31.85 percent.
`We got a lot of work to do,` said Amedore during his victory speech. `We need to get New York back in business. We need government off our backs and out of our pockets. We need to create jobs in this county and the assembly district and I am the person to do that in Albany.“
