Senator Neil Breslin has declared victory in the 46th Senate District.
Unofficial results have him leading Republican challenger Robert Domenici with a tally of 37610 to 30277 votes, and Reform candidate Michael Carey rounding out the ballot with 4418.
The tally reflects 216 of 347 districts reporting, according to the Albany County Board of Elections.
Speaking alongside area Democrats at the Polish-American Club in Albany. Breslin said, It’s not an accident I’m the fifth one to mention organize labor. Voters are unhappy. They need jobs. Taxes are too high, and we need to work with Gov. Cuomo to create new jobs.
He later told The Spotlight: `This was the most stressful race I’ve been in.`
Breslin said he received a call from Domenici, who was `gracious` and offered the senatr his help. When asked about the seemingly negative tone the campaign took in the past week, as robo-calls regarding the senator’s traffic stop, field-sobriety test and subsequent revelation that Breslin drank a couple glasses of wine the night he was stopped went out across the district, Breslin said that type of campaigning tends to `backfire.`
Domenicic said he will run again.
`Tonight we’re going to hold Neil Breslin to a higher standard, because this is only the beginning,` said Domenici the night of the election. `We’re not stopping. We’re gonna keep coming, we’re going to keep building and we’re gonna keep running.`
