Scotia-Glenville’s Ben Kraines won the individual title at Monday’s Foothills Council Cross Country Championships at Saratoga Spa State Park.
Kraines completed the five-kilometer course with a time of 15:34.58, more than five seconds ahead of runner-up Nick Marcantonio of Glens Falls.
Kraines’ victory helped the Tartans place third in the boys team standings with 61 points, two points behind runner-up Broadalbin-Perth. Queensbury claimed the Foothills Council title with 33 points after placing five runners in the top 12.
Bobby Gallant contributed a 10th-place finish for Scotia-Glenville. The senior completed the course in a time of 16:38.14. Alex Gilgore (13th, 16:47.27) and Chris LaCoss (17th, 17:03.65) made the top 20 for the Tartans.
On the girls’ side, Queensbury eased to the team title with 21 points. Scotia-Glenville finished second with 66 points.
Becky Celorio led the Lady Tartans with a third-place finish in a time of 19:02.93. Katie Zeppetelli placed ninth with a time of 19:50.92, while Josie Zeppetelli (16th, 20:16.94) and Becca Kraines (17th, 20:17.87) contributed top-20 times.
Scotia-Glenville’s cross country teams will host the Tartan Invitational Saturday at Indian Meadows Park. The meet is the last event before next Friday’s Section II Championships at Saratoga Spa State Park.
In other cross country action, the Schenectady Christian School boys team placed third at Tuesday’s Western Athletic Conference Championships in Fort Plain. The Falcons finished with 80 points, well behind the battle for first place between Mayfield (35 points) and Berne-Knox-Westerlo (36 points).
Jacob Urys led Schenectady Christian with a fourth-place finish. Urys completed the three-mile course in a time of 16:34.33.
Chris Murphy was 10th with a time of 17:14.26 for the Falcons. Ryun Murphy followed in 16th place with a time of 17:45.46, and Sam Taft finished 20th with a time of 18:33.62.`
