Students, parents and staff in the Bethlehem Central School District are mourning today the loss of Clarksville Elementary School Principal Dorothy McDonald, who died Tuesday.
McDonald served as principal of Clarksville for eight years before going on medical leave during the past school year. She had hoped to return to the school.
When she came to Bethlehem Central and Clarksville eight years ago, Ms. McDonald said she wanted to be a hands-on administrator who took an active role in student learning every day and she did just that,` Superintendent Michael Tebbano said in a statement. `She was a passionate believer in a well-rounded education, and she lived and led by the Clarksville motto: ‘Where children, learning and service go hand-in-hand.’`
District K-12 Art Supervisor Melanie Painter took over as interim Clarksville principal in August.
Social workers are meeting with students class-by-class today, according to the district, and administrators are urging parents to discuss the matter with their children.
Details on funeral or memorial services were not yet available.“
