On Thursday, Aug. 26, George Carter-Thompson, of 49 White Birch Estates in Ford Edward, was convicted of assault in the second degree, a violent felony, and criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony, according to Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy’s office.
Carter-Thompson, 32, was convicted stemming from an incident that occurred in the Town of Moreau on Jan. 28, where he physically abused a 5-month-old girl, causing a skull fracture, leg fracture and numerous bruises. According to information from Murphy’s office, a large breakthrough in the case came when a bite mark on the baby’ shoulder was swabbed and Carter-Thompson’s DNA was found within the mark.
According to Murphy’s office, Carter-Thompson wasn’t a stranger to the victim or her family and also violated an order of protection against the victim’s mother by placing 26 phone calls to her between Jan.31 and Feb. 4.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 21 and Murphy said his office will ask the judge to impose seven years jail time on the assault charge and an additional one and 1/2 to three years parole period, as well as a permanent order of protection of at least 18 years.
