From the DA’s office:
District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that Akiva Daniel Abraham, 43, of Rexford, was found guilty after a jury trial of one count of Insurance Fraud in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony in front of the Honorable Dan Lamont.
After a fire was intentionally set at Saratoga Winners on April 30, 2009, Abraham filed a `Property Loss Notice` in an attempt to obtain insurance proceeds in excess of $380,000 when he knew the property had been destroyed by arson.
The verdict comes after an unprecedented collaboration amongst the Colonie Police Department, the Colonie Fire Department, the New York State Police, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the New York State Insurance Frauds Bureau and the Office of the Albany County District Attorney.
Abraham faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced on Oct. 15.
