State police arrested a Massachusetts man in the Town of New Scotland over the weekend for allegedly violating Leandra’s Law.
On Saturday, July 10, police arrested Thomas P. Russell, 68, of Leicaster, after he was stopped for speeding on Thacher Park Road at 9:05. He allegedly failed several field sobriety tests and was placed into custody.
Under Leandra’s Law, his DWI charge became a felony because he he two relatives under 16 years old in the vehicle. He was also charged with aggravated DWI for having a BAC over .18 percent and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned in New Scotland Town Court and remanded to Albany County jail without bail.`
