Republican candidate for the 46th Senate District Bob Domenici received the Albany County Conservative Party’s nomination in the wake of former candidate Joseph Vitollo dropping out last week.
Vitollo said he would support Domenici as the Republican candidate even before Domenici got the thumbs up from Albany County Conservatives on Friday, June 18.
I am pleased to have received the endorsement of the Albany County Conservative Party, Domenici said. `Together, we will bring positive change to state government.`
Albany County Conservative Chairman Richard Stack said Domenici better fits the party’s values than incumbent Neil Breslin, D-Delmar, and touted Domenici’s qualifications.
Stack said Breslin’s liberal stance on topics ranging from gay rights to the death penalty is why the Albany County Conservative Party is backing Domenici and not the incumbent.
Stack said Domenici’s background in the military, his time as a member of the South Colonie Central School District and his experience in the local business community, paired with his knowledge base and emphasis on `family values, good government and fiscal responsibility,` are why he is an ideal candidate for the Conservative Party.
Domenici retired from the Army after 22 years of active military service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is the recipient of a number of awards during his time in the military and operates a defense-based company in the Watervliet Arsenal called Strategic Response Initiatives, LLC.
Domenici said he plans to cap property taxes and expand the STAR rebate program as part of his platform, which focuses on reducing spending.
`We are seeing our state government slip further and further into debt. Our leaders cannot agree on passing the budget and the men and women of our state workforce have been threatened with layoffs. I ask you, is this leadership?` he said. `The days of three men in a room are numbered. It’s time to change the way Albany does business for good.`
Domenici lives in South Colonie with his wife Virginia.
