The Bethlehem Industrial Development Agency was briefly slated to meet on the morning of Saturday, June 12, but the session was called off because adequate public notice was not provided.
I didn’t want people to participate in a meeting that would be in violation of [the open meetings law], IDA President Frank Venezia said.
The meeting’s agenda did not include any specific projects or initiatives. There were five items dealing with the role and legal status of local development corporations like the IDA and economic development and retention ideas.
Venezia said it is unlikely any decisions would have been made at the session, but it’s something the board has been trying to put together since April.
`What caused us some of the difficulty was the schedules of some of the IDA members,` he said.
By the time it became clear everyone would be able to make the date and time, it was already close to the meeting. The state’s open meetings law requires public notice be posted at least 72 hours before a meeting.
Notice was given through the town on Thursday afternoon.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the IDA is June 23, 8 a.m., at Town Hall. There, members will look to reschedule the special meeting, Venezia said.“
