A Clifton Park man was arrested by New York State Police in Wilton on Monday, June 7, for impersonating a state trooper on May 30, according to reports.
David Healy, 22, was charged with criminal impersonation in the first degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, both felonies, stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on May 30.
According to reports, an investigation revealed that a motorist was stopped twice on the Northway at about 2 a.m. on May 30 by Healy, who identified himself as an undercover New York State Trooper. Healy released the motorist with a warning about his speed and a few minutes later the same man stopped the same motorist, this time taking the motorist’s driver’s license and searching his car, according to reports. The motorist became suspicious of the alleged officer and began to inquire about his actions when the suspect fled in his own vehicle. The investigation revealed that Healy used a blue, dash-mounted light unit in his vehicle and was wearing a baseball style hat with `police` written across the front. The vehicle used by Healy was a green 2003 GMC Envoy (SUV).
The larceny charge stems from Healy’s theft of the motorist’s license. Healy was released on an appearance ticket and is due in the Town of Moreau Court on Thursday, June 10.
At this time State Police say they are not aware of any other incidents involving Healy but anyone with information can contact the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit at 583-7010.
