The 21-year-old man accused of trying to murder his mother in September, was convicted on felony counts of Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 2nd Degree and a misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of of a Weapon in the 4th, Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy announced on Wednesday, April 21.
Nicholas Ture, of Saratoga Springs, pleaded guilty to all counts.
The plea and conviction stems from a September 22, 2009 incident that occurred on Van Rensselaer Street in Saratoga Springs when Ture allegedly stabbed the victim, his mother, with a knife, according to information from Murphy’s office. The victim then fled the residence while being chased by Ture, still armed with a knife, and he continued to attack her with the knife. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds including a slashing wound to her neck, which nearly caused her death, said Murphy. Two nearby Department of Public Works employees, Mark Milks and Mark Roberts, witnessed the attack and came to the assistance of the victim, said Murphy.
Ture is scheduled to be sentenced on June 16 at 1:30 p.m. when it is expected he will receive a sentence of 15 years in state prison with five years of post release supervision.
This is sad on many levels and I only hope that this plea to some degree assists the victim in her healing process, said Murphy in a statement.
