Colonie and Rotterdam police are teaming up to investigate two late-night armed robberies at drive-through windows, according to officials.
At close to 12:44 a.m., Monday, March 31, an employee of the Dunkin Donuts at 1636 Central Avenue, in the Village of Colonie, was allegedly robbed at the drive-through window by a white female approximately 5-feet-4-inches tall.
The suspect approached the drive-through window on foot, displayed a gray handgun, and demanded the contents of the cash register. The suspect fled on foot, and was last seen running toward the rear of the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, according to information sent out by the Colonie police department.
Police said the suspect has a thin build and was wearing a navy hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and a black facemask.
Detective Sgt. John Archambault said the cooperative effort with Rotterdam was due to a similar robbery at the McDonald’s on Curry Road at the 5 Corners, occurring a few hours after the Colonie incident, at close to 4 a.m.
`We put our heads together to try to find a commonality between the two [incidents],` Archambault said.
Lt. Michael Brown of the Rotterdam police department said the descriptions of the suspect were the same in both cases, contributing to the need for a collaborative effort.
Rotterdam police also issued a statement seeking information about the suspect, also described as a thin female suspect with a gray handgun and dark clothes and a black face mask.
Other surrounding police departments have been notified, Archambault said.
The Rotterdam police said the suspect was seen fleeing eastbound in the McDonald’s parking lot near Vincent Street.
