Third grader Danielle Abbruzzese of Altamont got a charitable and stylish makeover when she had ten inches of her hair cut off for Locks of Love at Creative Styles in Rotterdam.
The nine year old Altamont Elementary school student said she was inspired to grow her hair out after a friend of hers mother was diagnosed with cancer.
It kind of came to me because one of my friends mom had cancer and I wanted to grow my hair out long enough to donate it to locks for love, she said.
According to her mother, Mary Abbruzzese, it took Danielle a little over a year to grow her hair to the minimum of ten inches that is required by locks for love.
Owner of Creative Styles, Donnna Digiuseppe, said since their Stewart Street location’s opening two years ago, they have had about six Locks of Love appointments and have also begun to help cancer patients in their own way with sizing for cranial prosthetics post-chemo treatment and is a provider through CDPHP. Digiuseppe said she has had a lot of friends herself go through experiences with cancer and wants to give back in any way she can.
`Its a personal thing, for me, and there are more clients that are touched by the effects of cancer,` she said.
