Saratoga Springs police officer Glenn Barrett was named Officer of the Year for 2009 by Lieutenants of the Saratoga Springs Police Department on Friday, March 5. Barrett was chosen because throughout the year he was a top performer on his assigned shift in arrests made, traffic stops and calls for service. He was honored at a ceremony at City Hall that afternoon.
He was nominated by Lieutenant Robert Jillson for his positive attitude in his day to day approach to police work.
`Officer Barrett is an excellent cop and a good example for other officers. He works well with other members of the department and has been involved with a youth mentoring program through his church for several years. Glenn is a hard worker and a valuable asset to our department, this is a well deserved honor for him,` said Jillson in information released by the department.
Lieutenant Greg Veitch said Barrett is frequently assigned to bicycle patrol in the downtown area, is a member of the department’s Mounted Unit and is responsible for training new police officers who have recently completed the Police Academy in his role as a field training officer.
`[Barrett] has done a great job conducting investigations. He was involved in a couple missing persons cases that were relatively complex and were resolved successfully. There were also a number of larceny investigations that took quite a bit of time to complete and conduct the investigation,` said Veitch.
