After a outcry of support after a devastating fire in Oct. of 2009, Hot Harry’s Burrito Bar on Union Street will offer free breakfast burritos and take donations to help local families on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 8 to 10 a.m.
The upper union street restaurant was completely renovated after a upstairs apartment caused extensive smoke and water damage on Oct. 6, of 2009. Samir Abdallah, owner of the franchise, said that after an outcry of support from the community, they wanted to give back to the community with the free burrito event. Alongside the free food, donations to the Family Life Center, the City Mission of Schenectady’s shelter for mothers and children.
We wanted to do something for the community, said Abdallah. `Everyone has been so gracious and supportive of us coming back.`
The Hot Harry’s 1625 Union St. location is considered the flag ship of the company, with training and catering services being ran out of the restaurant. Started in 2003 in Pittsfield, Mass., the franchise has over six stores, with locations ranging from East Greenbush to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Along with the free burritos on Feb. 3, customers are asked to donate $3 to the Family Life Center.
`It’s an exemplary charity and the donations are especially appropriate during the winter,` said Abdallah in a statement.“
