For the second year in a row, the student senate at Bethlehem Central High School has collected over 100 winter coats for a holiday season donation.
Senate volunteers manned collection sites at the high school over the winter break, said Senate President Sam Stern, and were inundated with donations.
I think everyone pitched in, he said. `It was a really good result.`
An exact count of the coats donated was not available, but they were taken to the Interfaith Coalition for the Homeless in Albany. Interfaith Director of Development Bonnie St. Onge said that the senate is easily one of the largest contributors to their winter coat program.
`Because it was right before the holidays, we had a lot more people coming in for assistance,` she said. `To have those coats available for children and adultsit just worked very nicely.`
The student senate is made up of representatives from each of the high school’s four grades and focuses on helping school clubs, fundraising and working with administrators to address student needs and concerns.
