The Colonie girls basketball team left no doubt which team reigns supreme in the town.
The Lady Raiders (6-1, 8-1) jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 64-36 victory over crosstown rival Shaker in last Friday’s Suburban Council game in Latham.
Colonie used its defensive pressure to force several Shaker turnovers and create fast breaks, especially in the first and third quarters. The Lady Raiders also kept the Blue Bison’s post players, Lauren Woods and MacKenzie Rowland, under wraps as the two players combined for 17 points.
Tehresa Coles scored 24 points and added several steals for Colonie, which added a 22-9 run in the third quarter to put the game away. Jaclyn Welch contributed nine points, and Kelly Dillon added eight points.
Rowland’s 10 points paced Shaker (5-2, 7-2), which lost for the first time since its season opener against Shenendehowa.
Both Shaker and Colonie were home Tuesday for Suburban Council games. Shaker hosted Ballston Spa, while Colonie hosted Mohonasen.
