A couple hit by a car during the First Night celebration in Saratoga Springs have each been issued a traffic citation, according to Lt. Gregory Veitch.
After an investigation into the accident by both the police department and Patrol and Traffic Division members, including interviews with several witnesses, Veitch said it became apparent that pedestrians Warren and Katherine Frederick of Clifton Park had walked into the roadway outside of the marked crosswalk at Broadway and Caroline Street. The traffic signal at the intersection indicated a green signal for the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The Fredericks violated a portion of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law that states,
No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impractical for the driver to yield. They are scheduled to appear in Saratoga Springs City Court on Feb. 24. No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle and police do not believe that alcohol was a factor.
Warren Frederick, 59, suffered broken ribs, lacerations, contusions, fractured facial bones and broken fingers. Katherine Frederick suffered fractured facial bones, a broken leg and a broken clavicle. Both were treated at Albany Medical Center and police said there is no update on their condition.
