The Town of Guilderland Fire Investigation Bureau determined the caused of a fire that occurred at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at a home on Park Avenue in Guilderland.
According to the Town of Guilderland Fire Investigation Bureau the fire was accidental in nature, the result of improperly disposed ashes from a wood burning stove, said Sean Maguire, Public Information Officer of the Town of Guilderland Fire Chiefs Association.
According to information from the Fire Chiefs Association, `Damage [from the fire] was sustained to portions of the house including the garage and room above it. The heat from the fire caused damage to the siding on a neighboring home, but the fire did not spread to that structure.`
Maguire said the Fire Investigation Bureau would like to warn residents to properly dispose of ashes from fires. `If you are disposing of ashes from a fire, place them in a metal container at least 5 feet away from any combustibles,` said Maguire.
