Jose Mejia, 19, of 2400 Van Vranken Ave., Schenectady and Anthony Jones, 21, of 1857 Foster Ave., Schenectady, were arrested by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Unit, led by Inspector John Burke, with Detectives from the town of Colonie Police Department, on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, according to police reports.
Sheriff Investigators and town of Colonie Detectives received information from an informant that Mejina and Jones were planning a daytime robbery of a residence in the Town of Colonie. Detectives and Investigators set up surveillance at both men’s residences in Schenectady. While there, they observed the two males exiting their residences with a sawed off shotgun and handgun, according to reports. Both Mejia and Jones were observed getting into a vehicle, and once inside, were followed by investigators and detectives until the vehicle crossed into the Town of Colonie where officers were able to stop them on Central Ave, according to reports.
Officers discovered a Sears 12 gauge sawed off shogun, which was loaded and of which the barrel was sawed down to 15 1/2 inches. Also discovered was a pellet gun which resembled a .38 caliber pistol and bandannas which were going to be used to hide their identity, according to reports.
Both Mejia and Jones were arraigned in Colonie Town Court by the honorable Andrew Sommers and were remanded into the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
