The Schenectady County STOP-DWI Program will sponsor the Safe Ride Home Program for New Year’s Eve, giving Schenectady County residents free taxi rides home during the night of festivities beginning at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31, according to a press release from the county.
Rides, starting at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 and running until 5 a.m. on Jan. 1, can be obtained by calling 374-4101.
`Our goal is a fun, safe and happy New Year for everyone in Schenectady County,` said Democratic County Chairwoman Susan Savage in a statement. `We invite you to ring in the New Year by first viewing a spectacular fireworks display and then celebrating in one of our many exciting nightspots. But please dive safe and sober, and if you need a ride home call for a ‘Safe Ride.’`
According to the county, last year’s use of the program was so successful that there were no DWI arrests made during the night at the time of the `Safe Ride` home program. Police agencies throughout the county will be out in force during the night to ensure safety, according to reports.
Albany County will also be offering safe rides home for residents from 10 p.m. Dec. 31 to 3 a.m. Jan. 1 by calling 720-8100.“
