The town of Rotterdam Water Department has put into effect a water boiling advisory after a water main on Princetown Road broke on Saturday, Dec. 26 with a second water main breaking on Sunday Dec. 27 at Altamont Avenue, according to the Town of Rotterdam website.
Areas affected by the water boiling advisory include all areas between North Thompson Street at Princetown Road and North Westcott Road and Curry Road with all side streets in the vicinity. The advisory will be in effect until further notice, according to the town website.
The main break on Altamont Avenue has closed the intersection of Altamont Avenue and Curry Road to Stewart Street. As of mid-day Monday, Dec. 28, the water main on Altamont Avenue was determined to be an old line from an unused water system in the town and the main break at Princetown Road is under control as of Sunday, Dec. 27.
Once the tanks throughout town are full, water pressure will go back to it’s normal levels, said Rotterdam Highway Supervisor Jim Longo. Since the water mains have been fixed the water pressure will slowly return to the affected areas. Longo also stated that while the boiling water advisory is still in effect, he is sure that the advisory will be lifted as of late Tuesday, Dec. 29, after water samples are once again take by the Rotterdam Water and Sewer Department.“
