After three games, the Scotia-Glenville girls basketball team is the top team in the Foothills Council.
The Lady Tartans (3-0 league, 4-1 overall) remained undefeated entering Tuesday’s showdown with traditional power Johnstown by beating Queensbury 51-27 last Friday.
The Spartans were within six points of Scotia-Glenville at halftime, but the Lady Tartans put the game out of reach by outscoring Queensbury 26-8 in the second half.
Freshman guard Cassie Broadhead drained three shots from behind the three-point arc on her way to a 20-point night for Scotia-Glenville, which moved into sole possession of first place in the Foothills Council. Danielle Conley contributed 14 points.
Following Tuesday’s game against Johnstown, Scotia-Glenville is off until next week’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Tournament. The Lady Tartans meet BH-BL in next Tuesday’s opening round.
In other girls basketball action last weekend, Mohonasen (3-2, 4-2) moved back above the .500 mark in the Suburban Council with Friday’s 63-52 victory over Ballston Spa.
The Mighty Warriors had a hard time putting away the Scotties. They didn’t take control of the game until a 21-point fourth quarter gave them their final margin of victory.
Ashley Tallman had 25 points for Mohonasen, which lost two league games in a row before beating BH-BL and Ballston Spa last week. Courtney Cowell contributed 16 points, and Dayna Lashin added 12 points.
The Mighty Warriors are off until next Monday, when they host Gloversville in a non-league game.
While Mohonasen righted its ship, Niskayuna (1-4) continued to list following a 45-41 loss to Colonie last Friday.
The Silver Warriors had a 24-19 halftime lead before the Garnet Raiders (4-1) went on a 14-2 run in the third quarter to take control.
Jaclyn Welch netted 14 points, and Tehresa Coles chipped in 12 points for Colonie, which is second to Averill Park in the Suburban Council South Division standings. Ashley McCaughan’s 14 points paced Niskayuna.
The Silver Warriors meet Bishop Maginn next Monday in a non-league game.
Schenectady Christian (4-0) cruised to a 43-23 non-league win over Loudonville Christian last Friday in Scotia. Monica Compton’s 16 points led the Falcons, who built a 19-2 lead in the first quarter.
Schenectady Christian returned to Western Atheltic Conference action Tuesday when it hosted Mayfield. The Falcons are off until next Monday when Monument Mountain (Mass.) visits Scotia.
Schalmont (0-6) remained winless after falling to Watervliet 49-23 last Friday. Meghan Strijek scored nine points to lead Schalmont.
The Sabres looked to break their losing streak when they hosted Cobleskill Tuesday.`
