In developing a five year strategic plan, Schenectady County Community College hosted a strategic planning summit on Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Stockade Building,in Schenectady.
The summit included presentations from local experts who presented insight into different specialties with assessment of trends through 2015, according to a press release from the college.
Agenda items at the summit included Technology, Arts and Entertainment, Workforce Development, Economic Development, Emergency Management, Transfer Programs, Medical/Health Care, and a local perspective from the Schenectady Chamber of Commerce.
One of the main reasons we had this was to develop our first five year strategy plan and we want make sure we are set to meet the community over the next five years, and beyond, said Associate Dean for Planning and Development at SCCC Stan Strauss.
Among the speakers in the different categories at the event included Cheif Executive Officer of the United Way of the Great Capital Region Katherine Pelham, Angelo Mazzone of the Mazzone Management Group, Vice President of Community Relations for the Schenectady Light Opera Company Joe Fava, Urban Initatives John Samatulski, Schenectady Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen, Councilmen-elect for the town of Glenville Sid Ramotar and Alan Boulant, and Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges for the State Univeristy of New York Dr. Dennis Golladay.
The information that was shared at the meeting will be followed up with the groups in the coming months, according to Strauss. The school hopes to have the strategic plan in place by the beginning of the summer.
`We felt that it was a very successful start to setting up a direction for our five-year plan, but its only the beginning,` said Strauss.“
