Parents with growing children and the fashion conscious take note: there’s another place you can take your old coat to serve a good cause.
The Bethlehem High School Student Senate is running a coat dive from Dec. 14 to 22, with all donations going to the Interfaith Coalition for the Homeless in Albany. Last year, the senate collected 160 coats.
We’re looking to get as many as we can, but it would definitely be nice to exceed that, said Student Senate President Sam Stern.
Any size new or gently used coat will be accepted. The collections will take place at the high school daily, from 7:15 to 7:30 a.m.; 10:15 a.m. to 1:20 p.m.; and 2:15 to 3 p.m.
Students will be set up to receive coats near the cafeteria.
The Student Senate is made up of representatives from each of the high school’s four grades and focuses on helping school clubs, fundraising and working with administrators to address student needs and concerns.
The senate recently completed a school wide food drive for Adopt a Family more than 31 boxes of food, far more than the original goal of 20 boxes. Stern hopes that the coat drive is similarly successful.
