The Salvation Army in Schenectady have narrowed the gap in kettle donations as the holiday season comes to the end, according to Major Jim Guest of the Salvation Army in a Dec. 16 release.
Through Saturday, Dec. 12, we narrowed the margin down to 14 percent less in kettle donations, compared to the same time last year, said Guest in the release. `At present, we have raised $72,507 compared to the $84, 120 at this time last year. With just a week left before Christmas, the challenge is to reach $120,000 to meet our goal. Schenectady County residents are generous and I deeply appreciated the trust they put in The Salvation Army to help our neighbors.`
Major Guest has also announced that he is looking for a corporate sponsor to match the kettle collections for this coming Saturday, Dec. 19. `The last Saturday before Christmas is the last push for donations. We are nearing the finish line and need that spurt to reach our goal,` said Guest in the release. `A corporate sponsor to either match dollar-for-dollar or two-for-one will give us that extra boost to reach the finish line.`
In 2009, the Schenectady Salvation Army’s programs provided 125,000 meals, provided 557 nights of lodging at its women and children shelter and provided 13,490 articles of clothing among their activities in helping the community with over 26,000 volunteer hours being given in 2009, according to a press release.
