The Shenendehowa hockey team struck for three goals in the first period on its way to a 4-1 victory over Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa in Tuesday’s Capital District High School Hockey League game at Union College.
Derek DiScanio got things started for the Plainsmen (1-0-0 league, 2-3-0 overall) when he scored off a pass from T.J. Goodwin 56 seconds into the opening period. Matt Findlay scored less than seven minutes later and Goodwin added a goal 50 seconds after that to make the score 3-0.
Frankie Emmer tallied 1:22 into the second period to give Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa (1-2-1, 2-3-1) some new life, but Matt Dempsey scored midway through the frame to seal Shen’s victory.
Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa goaltender Ian Koupash was busy most of the night, as he fended off 32 of Shen’s 36 shots on goal. Peter Rakowsky made 11 saves for the Plainsmen.
Shen hosts South Glens Falls/Hudson Falls Friday, while Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa meets Mohonasen/Schalmont Saturday. `
