After weather canceled the holiday joy last year, the Scotia Village Special Events Committee will host their annual, Holiday on the Avenue, on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. on Mohawk Ave.
The event will include fun for children and adults with visits from Santa at Scotia’s `North Pole,` pony rides, local music, and local businesses open along the avenue for the duration of the night. Food, gingerbread man competitions and a family-friendly atmosphere will return to Scotia after weather last year caused the event to be canceled.
`I think it will be a huge event for everyone,` said First National Bank of Scotia Marketing Coordinator Karen Poole. `It provides them an opportunity to come out and celebrate the holidays in the village. It also provides the business along the avenues some added traffic during the holiday season.`
Kids will be able to meet with Santa and his elves with a chance to win one of two bikes and parents will be able to win a $250 gift card for participating in the `Shop Hop` with 21 local businesses on the street. Local music groups will also perform including 2 Pews Back, 4 Ever 1, a men’s barbershop quartet and multiple Scotia-Glenville student groups, according to a press release.
A 50/50 raffle will also be ran throughout the night to benefit the Scotia Relief Association, which helps residences in the Scotia-Glenville school district in times of need.
The event is be hosted by the First National Bank of Scotia, Frank and Sons Body Works, and Roy Matthews TV and Appliance. The event is free to the public.“
