The Niskayuna Police Department is investigating reports of residential burglaries that have occurred over the past few weeks, according to a press release from the department on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Detectives are working with other local agencies and are developing leads into reports where four single family homes were entered by unknown suspects. Entry to the homes were apparently gained through unsecured doors and in one case an unsecured window, according to police. In each reports TV’s, laptop computers, digital cameras, video game equipment and jewelry were stolen. Two of the affected residences are located in the Old Niskayuna neighborhood and two others are homes in the neighborhoods off of Rosendale Road, according to police.
The department is asking residents to use common safety precautions such as locking doors and windows and taking valuables out of vehicles. Lighting and landscaping can also make a difference, according to the release, to raise visibility around homes.
The department also stated that residents should keep mail and newspapers from accumilatng outside of their homes and should speak with neighbors to watch each others homes and act as key holders for each others homes in case of emergency.
Residents are encouraged to contact the police department at 374-3159 with anything that they feel is, suspicious or out of the ordinary. Anyone who has any information relating to the burglaries are also encouraged to call the department.“
