The Town of Colonie will be kicking off its annual Toys for Tots toy drive on Monday, Nov. 23.
Colonie Town officials will be joined by Gunnery Sgt. Albert Roman, the local coordinator for Toys for Tots based out of Glenville, at Memorial Town Hall to announce the toy drive.
This is the 14th year the town has participated in the toy drive, in which town employees and residents are asked to collect unwrapped new toys worth at least $10 and drop them off at Memorial Town Hall and several other locations throughout the town between Monday, Nov. 23, and Wednesday, Dec. 9.
The toys are delivered to children who might not have otherwise received holiday gifts during the holiday season.
According to a press release sent by the supervisor’s office, for the first 12 years that the town participated, only town employees were asked to donate the toys. Last year, town officials extended the program to include donations from town residents as well in order to collect as many toys as possible.
The toy drive has long played a major role in how town employees express their support for the community during the holidays, said Colonie Supervisor Paula Mahan in the release. `When we extended the drive to town residents last year, the response was overwhelming. I am so proud that we can pull together as a town so that more of our children can have a happy holiday.`
The toys will be formally presented to Toys for Tots at a holiday party hosted by the town’s elected officials at a later date.
If you would like to donate a toy, you may do so at Memorial Town Hall, 534 Loudon Road in Newtonville; William K. Sanford Library, 629 Albany-Shaker Road in Loudonville; Colonie Community Center, 1653 Central Ave. in Colonie; Public Safety Center, 312 Old Wolf Road in Latham; or at the Public Operations Center, 347 Old Niskayuna Road in Latham.
