The Scotia-Glenville girls cross country team had little trouble winning the Class B title at last Friday’s Section II Championships at Saratoga Spa State Park.
Four Tartans placed in the top 10 to lead Scotia-Glenville to the easy victoey. Scotia-Glenville finished with 42 points, 29 points ahead of runner-up Broadalbin-Perth.
Sophomore Becky Celorio led a youthful Scotia-Glenville squad by winning the individual title in a time of 18:41.20. Junior Katie Zeppetelli was fifth in a time of 19:17.58, while freshman Josie Zeppetelli took ninth place in a time of 19:43.93.
Freshman Becca Kraines (10th place, 19:44.50) and sophomore Blake Colver (17th, 20:31.96) rounded out Scotia-Glenville’s top five.
Schalmont finished seventh in the girls Class B team standings with 209 points. Sophomore Alyssa Alex led the Sabres with an 18th-place finish in a time of 20:32.20.
Niskayuna was fourth in the girls Class A team standings with 126 points, while Mohonasen placed eighth with 222 points.
On the boys’ side, Niskayuna, Scotia-Glenville and Schenectady Christian School each qualified individual runners for this weekend’s state meet in Plattsburgh.
Scotia-Glenville’s Ben Kraines had the best individual finish, as he placed second in the Class B race with a time of 15:55.25, 22 seconds behind individual champion David Richards of Cobleskill-Richmondville.
Schenectady Christian’s Jacob Urys placed fifth in the Class D race with a time of 16:30.85, while Niskayuna’s Marshall Pagano placed sixth in the Class A race with a time of 16:10.40.
Niskayuna finished third in the boys Class A team standings with 89 points.`
