Former River Rats player Robert Hughes was arraigned in Albany County Court this morning, and plead not guilty to two counts, criminal sexual act in the first degree and criminal sexual act in the third degree, both felonies, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s office.
The charges stem from an alleged incident in October of 2008 near 7 Elm Avenue in the Town of Bethlehem, the unsealed indictment reads. Hughes is being charged with conducting an act of sodomy with a female victim who was incapable of giving consent. The name of the victim is being withheld.
Bail was set at $50,000. It was not immediately clear if Hughes posted bail. A conference between attorneys and the court will be held in two weeks.
