After having a 38-game unbeaten streak snapped two weeks ago, the Bethlehem girls soccer team is building another winning streak.
The Lady Eagles won their fifth consecutive game last Thursday by shutting out Averill Park 3-0 in a Suburban Council South Division game in Delmar.
The win came at a price, though. Leading scorer Kaitlyn Martin tore her ACL in the first half and is out for the rest of the season.
That changes things a little bit for us, said Bethlehem coach Tom Rogan. `We just have to do our best to move forward.`
Without Martin, Kristina Maksuti handled all the goal scoring for Bethlehem (10-1) with a hat trick against Averill Park. Anna Gray and Michelle Primomo contributed assists, and goaltender Katie Nickels needed only two saves to pick up the shutout.
The Lady Eagles used a more balanced scoring attack to down Ballston Spa 7-2 last Tuesday. Martin had two goals and two assists, while Tara Teal chipped in a pair of goals for Bethlehem. Kristina and Marjana Maksuti each contributed a goal and two assists in the win.
`Any game is nice to win, but it’s nicer when the scoring is across the board,` said Rogan.
Bethlehem looked to extend its winning streak to six games Tuesday when it traveled to Rotterdam to face Mohonasen. The Mighty Warriors were hoping to be in better physical shape than they were last Thursday, when they had to postpone their game at Guilderland after several players became sick.
In other girls soccer action last week, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk had its three-game winning streak snapped by Lansingburgh with a 1-0 Colonial Council loss Friday. Sarah Cipperly scored the game’s lone goal in the second half for the Knights.
The Indians (6-4 league, 6-5 overall) entered their game against Lansingburgh off a 1-0 victory over Cohoes last Wednesday. Emily Scott scored in the first half, and goaltender Teagan Waddingham made the lead stand up with 11 saves.
R-C-S traveled to Albany Tuesday to face Holy Names.
Voorheesville (5-3-1, 6-4-1) had a more successful day at the offensive end against Cohoes with last Friday’s 5-0 victory. Hannah Brackett led the Blackbirds with two goals, while Caitlin Abelseth, Carrie Gorka and Eryn Ryan added the other goals.
Voorheesville hosted Colonial Council-leading Schalmont Tuesday.“
