The Schenectady Christian boys soccer team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Schoharie by beating Sharon Springs 1-0 Monday in a Western Athletic Conference South Division game.
The two teams were locked in a defensive battle through much of regulation before Eric Bode scored late in the second half for the Falcons (7-2 league, 7-3 overall). Bode received a pass from Juan Pardee on the fly and shot the ball past Sharon Springs goaltender Doug Ullman for the game winner.
Goaltender Dillon Bowman made several key saves for Schenectady Christian, which is in second place in the South Division, two points behind Schoharie.
The top two teams in the South Division met last Friday, with Schoharie pulling out a 2-0 victory over Schenectady Christian. Dylan LaBadia scored both of the Indians’ goals, and goaltender Sean Lawyer kept the Falcons out of the net at the other end.
Schenectady Christian returns to action Friday when it hosts Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
In other boys soccer action, Schalmont (8-0, 9-1) kept its spotless Colonial Council record with a 3-2 overtime victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk last Friday in Rotterdam.
Joe Amorosi scored the tying goal late in the second half, and Dylan Struffolino tallied less than one minute into overtime to give the Sabres the come-from-behind win. Zack Saccocio had the other Schalmont goal.
The Sabres looked to keep their Colonial Council record perfect Tuesday when they traveled to Voorheesville.
After enduring back-to-back ties against Broadalbin-Perth and Glens Falls, Scotia-Glenville got back into the win column Friday by beating Gloversville 5-1 in a Foothills Council contest.
Chris Alescio scored twice, while Nicholas Hlat, Bryce Campbell and Mattias Carosella added goals for the Tartans (3-2-2, 4-2-3), who hosted Queensbury Tuesday.
In Suburban Council action last Thursday, Niskayuna edged Guilderland 1-0, while Mohonasen lost to Shaker 5-0.
Monil Patel scored the lone goal of the game midway through the first half to help Niskayuna (4-6) knock off the Suburban Council South Division’s top team in Guilderland (6-3-1).
Meanwhile, Mohonasen (2-7-1) couldn’t get anything going against Shaker (5-4-1) in Rotterdam. Brandon Risler, Tim Preston and Kevin Lennon each scored first half goals to lead the Blue Bison.
Mohonasen’s woes continued Saturday with a 3-1 loss at Columbia. A.J. Igoe’s goal 15 minutes into the second half tied the game at 1-1 for the Mighty Warriors before the Blue Devils (3-7) tallied twice in the final 12 minutes to pull out the win.
Mohonasen traveled to Shenendehowa Tuesday, while Niskayuna hosted Columbia.`
