The Colonie boys volleyball team had a strong showing at Saturday’s Suburban Council Mid-season Tournament at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.
The Garnet Raiders reached the semifinals before losing to Section VI’s Canisius in three games. Colonie won the first game 25-23 before falling 25-17 and 25-20 in the last two games.
I thought it was the best we played all year, said Colonie coach Patrick Dwyer.
Outside hitter Roman Sosiak led the Garnet Raiders with 52 kils, 41 digs and eight blocks during the tournament. Setter Carlin Dwyer recorded 141 assists to go along with 44 digs, nine blocks and seven service aces.
Colonie looks to carry the momentum from the tournament into Wednesday’s home match against Columbia.
`I think [the tournament taught us] we’re capable of winning a lot of those close games,` said Dwyer. `We’re an experienced group. We have several guys who have played since the eighth grade.“
