A property owner who has a history of waste management issues has been accused of burying rubber tires at his junkyard, according to officials.
Robert Ciembroniewicz, of 2860 Currybush Road in Rotterdam, is the owner of a junkyard at 3600 Western Ave., near the edge of town. Someone made an anonymous complaint to the Guilderland building department alleging Ciembroniewicz is burying tires on the property.
Roger Stone, the town’s zoning enforcement officer, said he will not be able to verify the validity of the anonymous complaint until later in the month.
Ciembroniewicz is already the subject of a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, to discuss his lack of compliance with town code. The anonymous complaint about the tires was made on Friday, Sept. 18, according to Stone.
Ciembroniewicz has not contacted the town to indicate if he will appear at the public hearing, Stone said.
After the public hearing was set, Town Supervisor Ken Runion said Ciembroniewicz could be charged additional taxes if the town is forced to hire a contractor to clean up the property.
In the past, officials have found toxic fluids on the property that were leaking into local bodies of water. Officials said he has been given violations, orders and tickets and has appeared in court, but now that matter is in the hands of the town board. Stone said Ciembroniewicz is also under mandate from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to prevent oil and gas from contaminating the regional environment.
The town has not released a phone number for Ciembroniewicz or his attorney. Attempts by The Spotlight to contact him at his home were unsuccessful.`
