The Niskayuna girls swim team opened its season last Wednesday with a 101-80 victory over Saratoga Springs.
The Silver Warriors won all the events they actively competed in to pull away from the Blue Streaks. The only events Saratoga won were the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay, which Niskayuna treated as exhibitions.
Emily Whitaker and Kina Zhou each won two individual events for Niskayuna. Whitaker finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.16 and won the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.03 seconds, while Zhou claimed first place in the 50 freestyle (24.58 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:05.35).
Emma Terwilliger, Laura Manor and Leanne Archer also won individual events for the Silver Warriors. Terwilliger finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.45, while Manor won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.85. Archer took first place in the 500 freestle with a time of 5:33.50.
Megan McDevitt finished first in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 180.60 points.
Mohonasen-Schalmont also began its season last Wednesday, but it wasn’t as good of a start as Niskayuna’s start as it lost to Guilderville 119-67 at Voorheesville High School.
Mohonasen-Schalmont had three individual winners. Amanda Grossman won the 50 freestyle in a time of 27.28 seconds, Liz Giacchetta finished first in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 208.00 points and Dana Hallam took first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:56.64.
Mohonasen-Schalmont traveled to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Tuesday for its second meet of the season. Scotia-Glenville opened its season Wednesday by hosting Gloversville-Mayfield.`
