The Ballston Spa football team scored on its first play from scrimmage, and the Scotties didn’t let up as they downed Bethlehem 61-13 in last Friday’s game in Delmar.
Quarterback Mark Seager connected with Kyle Warmt on a 69-yard touchdown pass to open the game.
We had a mistake on the coverage, and the kid was wide open, said Bethlehem coach Rick Leach.
Warmt added an 11-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter, and Seager threw an 11-yard scoring strike to Josh Fabian to give the Scotties (2-0) a 21-0 lead.
Ballston Spa extended its lead to 47-0 before Bethlehem (1-1) got on the scoreboard with Casiem Maxwell’s 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Scotties responded quickly with Nick Tubolino’s 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to increase their lead to 54-6.
`We knew that they were very good ,and we knew we couldn’t afford to make the mistakes that we made,` said Leach. `The mistakes were what killed us.`
Maxwell added a 53-yard scoring run late in the third quarter and finished with 157 rushing yards to lead the Eagles.
In other Class AA football action last Friday, Guilderland eased past Columbia 47-7 for its first win of the season.
Quarterback Ryan Smith threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and added three scoring runs for the Dutchmen, who outscored Columbia (0-2) 29-0 in the second half.“
