Just because the economy is acting wild doesn’t mean your hair should.
A few local hair salons and barber shops are going out of their way to make sure even in these tough economic times, those who either cannot afford a haircut or who deserve to get a little something back are getting their hair trimmed at a discount.
Executive Barber Shop, a new barber shop located at 178 Loudon Road, that opened last week, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, offered Firemen Friday, on Friday, Sept. 4, where any firefighter could come in and receive a discounted hair cut, according to owner Melissa Fearn.
The special included $8 haircuts, half off from the usually priced $16 hair cuts.
Fearn said she wanted to come up with a way to give back to the community. She also plans to offer discounts for police and Emergency Medical Services employees in the future, as well as continuing the firefighter special every first Friday of the month.
Across town, at Stilettos, 1315 Central Ave., owner Chris Galeo said the salon is offering 99 cent hair cuts for men or women who are unemployed and for anyone currently serving or who has served in the military. Galeo said the salon has been running the unemployment special since March of this year.
`I do a lot of community work with my church,` she said.
`So, I just sort of wanted to give back to people.`
In order to obtain the discount, customers need to bring in proof of unemployment or having been in the military.
